What to do in case of an Emergency

In a medical emergency or other immediate crisis, you can call emergency services (112) for an ambulance, (it is a free service). We know that in the United States people often take a taxi in emergency situations. Of course, you can do the same in Italy if you wish, but please keep in mind that ambulance services are generally very fast. Since there are several hospitals located in the city center, an ambulance can often provide quicker and more appropriate medical assistance.

First dial 112 to reach health and police resources, firefighting resources, rescue and civil protection. The operator will answer the phone in Italian. Respond in English and you will be transferred to an English-speaking operator in a few moments. Be prepared to say your name and share your exact location and type of emergency
As soon as you are able, please also call the Local CIS Abroad Emergency Hotline (+39 352 0102278) if you are in Florence or the CIS Abroad US Emergency phone (+1 413 210 7091) if you are traveling. You can share the CIS Abroad US Emergency Phone number with your parents. The CIS Abroad emergency phone is used for on-site emergencies across the world, and someone will always be able to answer, as the phone is monitored 24/7.

If this is an emergency that happens during the day (from 9:00am to 6:00pm) - please notify CIS On-site Staff. They will help to guide you through the emergency.

You may call 0554390 (if you are staying at TSH, if you ask the front desk they can call a cab for you).
On MyMaps (shared by CIS Abroad Florence) you can also find the taxi stands in Florence city center.
There is also a taxi service for women only, called “Taxi Rosa” (night taxi priority). It runs between 10pm and 4am. Taxi Rosa’s numbers are 055 4378557 and 055 4361904.
